A visit to the Alhambra in Spain inspired Oxford, England-based Sudanese artist Ibrahim El-Salahi to begin his ‘Flamenco’ series, in which he celebrates the music and dance of Andalusia in his signature, modernist style. (At Salon94 on the Lower East Side through April 18th).

Yasumasa Morimura at Luhring Augustine
Japanese photographer Yasumasa Morimura first photographed himself as the Infanta, daughter of King Felipe IV from Velazquez’s famous ‘Las Meninas’ in 1990. Almost twenty-five years later, his latest series has him playing the role of every other character in it, as well as figures from the paintings that hang to either side at Madrid’s Prado. Susana Solano at Jack Shainman Gallery
Jack Shainman Gallery brings together sculptures from the past twenty-six years by major Spanish artist Susana Solano this month, including these evocative rattan forms, which suggest miniaturized housing (foreground) or a gargantuan thimble (back).
