Chamberlain / Prouve at Gagosian Gallery

Iconic French designer and architect Jean Prouve’s 1956 Villejuif Demountable House – designed for a school in Villejuif in south Paris – fills a side room at Gagosian Gallery’s 24th Street Chelsea location, turning it into a chic platform to show off sculpture by the late John Chamberlain. (Through April 4th).

Zaha Hadid in ‘Killer Heels’ at the Brooklyn Museum

Brooklyn Museum’s eye-popping ‘Killer Heels’ exhibition isn’t just for ladies who teeter. As well as design feats (pun intended) and works of art, the show includes architect Zaha Hadid’s NOVA shoe, created from vacuum-casted fiberglass with chrome plated external uppers. Vaguely resembling the sloping exterior of her first New York building currently under construction on the High Line in Chelsea, the shoe might be seen as a mini architectural rendering. Jacob Hashimoto at Mary Boone Gallery

For sheer ambition, not much in Chelsea beats New York artist Jacob Hashimoto’s wondrous ‘Skyfarm Fortress’ at Mary Boone Gallery. Thousands of paper and wood ‘kites’ create a space that looks like fantasy architecture or a structure pulled into reality form the digital realm. (Through Oct 25th).

Carlito Carvalhosa at Sonnabend Gallery

Known for artwork inspired by and interacting with architecture, Brazilian artist Carlito Carvalhosa fills two rooms of Chelsea’s Sonnabend Gallery with an installation of fluorescent lights, telephone poles and glassware that suggests a field of ungainly plants or delicately balanced, deconstructed architecture.
