In his latest multi-screen video installation, \u2018Wilderness\u2019 at 303 Gallery<\/a>, renowned artist Doug Aitken asks, \u201cHow far we will continue to evolve, and at what cost?\u201d \u00a0\u00a0Aitken\u2019s last major show in \u201818 at his Chelsea gallery featured communications expert and cell-phone pioneer Martin Cooper pondering how connected we actually need to be.\u00a0 Here, the artist takes this train of thought further, shooting footage on the beach near his Venice home to suggest land\u2019s end as a kind of metaphorical end to pre-digital life. \u00a0Beachgoers mouth phrases like \u2018You sound so sweet and clear but you\u2019re not really there,\u2019 but the audio is from AI generated digital voices. \u00a0Alluring and alarming, Aitken\u2019s scenes give pause for thought as we witness hands photographing the sunset becoming hands that hail the new. \u00a0(On view through May 27th<\/sup>).<\/p>\n
