{"id":9606,"date":"2021-12-28T15:30:24","date_gmt":"2021-12-28T20:30:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newyorkarttours.com\/blog\/?p=9606"},"modified":"2021-12-28T15:17:33","modified_gmt":"2021-12-28T20:17:33","slug":"cynthia-daignault-at-kasmin-gallery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newyorkarttours.com\/blog\/2021\/12\/28\/cynthia-daignault-at-kasmin-gallery\/","title":{"rendered":"Cynthia Daignault at Kasmin Gallery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Visiting Gettysburg National Military Park can amount to moving from one memorial to another, but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cynthiadaignault.com\/\">Cynthia Daignault<\/a>\u2019s new series of paintings at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kasmingallery.com\/exhibition\/cynthia-daignault-as-i-lay-dying\/ovr\">Kasmin Gallery<\/a>, inspired by the Civil War battlefield, focus not on the built environment but the natural world.\u00a0 Called \u2018a rumination on the meaning of site and time\u2019 by the gallery, Daignault\u2019s work features \u2018witness trees,\u2019 which were alive in the 1860s and are still in place today.\u00a0 Surrounded by graves, the trees operate outside of a human timeframe and offer an alternative perspective on historic events. \u00a0Painting titles include terms like \u2018synecdoche\u2019 or \u2018chiaroscuro,\u2019 suggesting that parts of an image can tell a larger story or that events exist in shades of light and dark.\u00a0 Here, \u2018Gettysburg (Stereoscopic)\u2019 nods to the popular 19<sup>th<\/sup> century photographic technique that creates depth by presenting two near identical images side-by-side.\u00a0 (On view through Jan 8<sup>th<\/sup>.
