Ophelia, who lost her life by drowning in Shakespeare\u2019s Hamlet, is transported to a North American landscape in recent work by Stephen Hannock at Marlborough Gallery<\/a>.\u00a0 An homage to the artist\u2019s late wife whose ill health took away her freedom, Hannock\u2019s Ophelia series draws on John Everett Millais\u2019 famous painting of Ophelia and Thomas Cole\u2019s renowned 1836 depiction of the Connecticut River\u2019s oxbow.\u00a0 Together, tragic individual experience merges with the sublime and healing possibility of nature.\u00a0 (On view through July 2nd<\/sup>.\u00a0 Masks and social distancing required).<\/p>\n
