\u2018This is the American dream gone wrong\u2019 declared a review of past work by Matt Bollinger<\/a> whose paintings were inspired by the people and places of the artist\u2019s home state, Kansas.\u00a0 Bollinger is back with new work at Zurcher Gallery<\/a> featuring electric colors that run counter to his usual muted tones, but which make the the weariness of his characters all the more noticeable.\u00a0 Even when they\u2019re in public, Bollinger\u2019s characters are alone, caught in a moment of reflection and looking devastated.\u00a0 (On view on the Lower East Side through April 29th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Masks and social distancing are required.)<\/p>\n
