Washington-based glass artist Dylan Martinez fools the eye with solid glass sculptures that appear to be plastic bags filled with water.\u00a0 \u201cOur desires often override our true perception of reality,<\/a>\u201d the artist explains, anticipating the strong urge to believe that there\u2019s water inside each \u2018bag\u2019 when, in fact, it\u2019s the reflections on the exterior that create an illusion of movement.\u00a0 A standout in Lyons Wier Gallery<\/a>\u2019s \u2018Fire & Water\u2019 group exhibition, Martinez also amazes with glass sculptures resembling cross sections of a vase, undulating in space.\u00a0 (On view in Chelsea through July 6th<\/sup>).<\/p>\n
