In the Arctic, \u2018so much believed to be white is actually \u2013 strikingly \u2013 blue,\u2019 writes award-winning American poet Robin Coste Lewis in a text applied to the wall at the entrance to Lorna Simpson\u2019s solo show at Hauser & Wirth<\/a>.\u00a0 Titled \u2018Darkening\u2019 and featuring monumentally scaled paintings combining text and images from Ebony magazine, the AP and National Archives, the new work pictures bodies and icy landscapes commenting on, as Simpson has explained, \u2018inhospitable conditions and how to survive those conditions.\u2019\u00a0 (On view in Chelsea through July 27th<\/sup>).<\/p>\n
