James Baldwin\u2019s intellectual legacy and his powerful impact on contemporary culture is the subject of David Zwirner Gallery<\/a>\u2019s current group exhibition, or \u2018collective portrait,\u2019 of the late writer and thinker.\u00a0 By displaying the work of other artists alongside documents and ephemera related to Baldwin, curator Hilton Als considers how the writer may have continued to make art had his career developed differently after the seminal \u2018The Fire Next Time.\u2019\u00a0 In one of the show\u2019s highlights, Njideka Akunyili Crosby\u2019s collaged photo draws on images from Nigerian and U.S. West Coast cultures, creating a provocative hybridity.
