Here, surrounded and entwined by flattened fire hoses (they were first displayed in an abandoned fire house) and displayed to the sounds of Mahalia Jackson&rsquo;s &lsquo;Amazing Grace,&rsquo; they&rsquo;re emblems of a gritty, made-do urban existence.
