Jam-packed bars and artist studios bursting with color are the mainstays of New York artist Rebecca Ness<\/a>\u2019 painting practice, scenes joined by quieter self-portraits picturing moments of work, thought or rest.\u00a0 Her latest solo show at Chelsea\u2019s Morgan Presents<\/a> delves deeper into her thought process with a wall of paintings featuring mini-versions of artworks by a variety of artists from Hans Holbein to Philip Guston as well as this huge homage to a relative who was a boxer on the Lower East Side. \u00a0Channeling George Bellows\u2019 famous 1924 painting \u2018Dempsey and Firpo\u2019 in the Whitney Museum\u2019s collection but sending the blue-shorted boxer flying in our direction, \u2018Abe\u2019s winning punch\u2019 ramps up the drama as Ness imagines her forebear\u2019s triumphant blow.
