Timed to coincide with his participation in the Brooklyn Museum\u2019s show of work by Dutch designer Iris van Herpen and a supporting cast of 20+ additional artists and designers, David Spriggs<\/a>\u2019 solo exhibition at Tribeca\u2019s Arsenal Gallery<\/a> stands out for its simultaneously ephemeral and solid presence.\u00a0 Here, in a piece that\u2019s part of Spriggs\u2019 \u2018Vision Series,\u2019 he arranges layers of painted Plexiglas to create the effect of an iris, the many segments even suggesting the layered structure of the eye\u2019s cornea, iris and lens.\u00a0 Inspired by Russian and Polish Constructivism (artist Katarzyna Kobra in particular), Spriggs explains that he wants to \u201cdefine space without filling it.\u201d (On view in Tribeca through Aug 22nd<\/sup>).<\/p>\n
