Nicelle Beauchene Gallery<\/a>\u2019s summer group exhibition \u2018Invincible Summer\u2019 cites French philosopher Albert Camus\u2019 statement that even in winter, he carried within him an \u2018invincible summer,\u2019 and proposes that many artists today adopt Surrealist strategies to find inspiration during difficult times.\u00a0 In one of the show\u2019s standouts, Margaret Curtis<\/a>\u2019 excessively teary figure \u2013 wispy locks and Benday dot nose suggesting Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein\u2019s crying women \u2013 sheers off from an aging wooden framework in a desolate environment.\u00a0 Titled \u2018Collapse,\u2019 the painting\u2019s combination of \u2018Old West\u2019 decay, alien landscape and dramatic sunset suggest the end of an era for the weepy blond stereotype.\u00a0 (On view in Tribeca through Aug 14th<\/sup>).<\/p>\n
