New York Art Tours continues to celebrate the U.S.\u2019s 250th<\/sup> anniversary this week in the Met Museum<\/a>\u2019s American galleries with this painting by 19th<\/sup> century American Impressionist Mary Cassatt, who befriended Edgar Degas, Berthe Morisot and other iconic artists while advising American collectors on the Paris art scene.\u00a0 \u2018Young Mother Sewing\u2019 features two paid models who lived near Cassatt\u2019s country home enacting a scene of casual familiarity between mother and child.\u00a0 Though she never married or had children, Cassatt was close to her nieces and nephews and created images of tenderness and love that resonate today.\u00a0 (On view in gallery 768 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art).<\/p>\n
