Is this hand smothered by the US flag?\u00a0 Supporting it?\u00a0 Chester Higgins<\/a>\u2019 striking 2018 photograph, \u2018State of Affairs\u2019 continues the photographer\u2019s six-decade photographic essay on the realities, triumphs and hardships of life for Black Americans with an image that is compositionally straightforward yet invites multiple interpretations.\u00a0 The piece is a standout in the 80-year-old Brooklyn-based photographer\u2019s current exhibition at Chelsea\u2019s Bruce Silverstein Gallery<\/a>, which includes work from his two dozen plus trips to the African continent alongside images from Harlem to Alabama, all of which richly demonstrate his love and respect for people of African descent.
