Michael Heizer<\/a>\u2019s \u2018Double Negative,\u2019 an enormous cut into the ground of Mormon Mesa, Nevada and his 1.5-mile-long shaped landscape, \u2018City\u2019 are among the most astounding artworks of the mid-20th<\/sup> century and were created far from urban art centers. Though a fraction of the size and located indoors at Gagosian Gallery<\/a>‘s 21st<\/sup> Street Chelsea space, Heizer\u2019s current installation of the sculptures \u2018Convoluted Line A\u2019 and \u2018Convoluted Line B\u2019 from 2024 are nonetheless impressively scaled and prompt a rethink of the space of the gallery.\u00a0 Each is formed of twisting steel earth liners set in a specially constructed concrete floor to create long lines of negative space along which visitors can walk, taking the measure of the piece not just with the eye but with the body. (On view in Cheslea through March 28th<\/sup>).<\/p>\n
