{"id":12623,"date":"2025-09-15T11:00:01","date_gmt":"2025-09-15T15:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newyorkarttours.com\/blog\/?p=12623"},"modified":"2025-09-15T08:03:05","modified_gmt":"2025-09-15T12:03:05","slug":"maria-berrio-in-soliloquy-of-the-wounded-earth-at-hauser-and-wirth-gallery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newyorkarttours.com\/blog\/2025\/09\/15\/maria-berrio-in-soliloquy-of-the-wounded-earth-at-hauser-and-wirth-gallery\/","title":{"rendered":"Maria Berrio in &#8216;Soliloquy of the Wounded Earth&#8217; at Hauser and Wirth Gallery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Along one wall of New York-based Columbian artist Maria Berrio\u2019s solo show at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hauserwirth.com\/hauser-wirth-exhibitions\/maria-berrio-soliloquy-of-the-wounded-earth\/\">Hauser and Wirth Gallery<\/a>, she depicts three Cumbia dancers in the guise of the Fates from Greek mythology, known for spinning a thread that will start, influence and end the life of each human.\u00a0 What if this thread should be stolen from them, repurposed and deified, spun into banners and flags?\u00a0 Throughout the show Berrio follows this storyline while also foregrounding female figures who seem to counter the misuse of the thread: an oracle on a horse, a levitating female figure and this young woman who walks with a brilliantly abundant banner.\u00a0 Using her signature Japanese papers with watercolor painting, Berrio\u2019s vibrant artworks offer a hopeful starting point for dreams.
