The Met Museum<\/a>\u2019s popular \u2018Sargent and Paris\u2019 exhibition featuring 19th<\/sup> century American expat painter John Singer Sargent\u2019s exquisite paintings of Europe\u2019s social elite has closed, but the Sargent family continues to be a focus of attention in a small show in the American galleries featuring Sargent\u2019s younger sister, Emily Sargent.\u00a0 The two were close and traveled and painted together, producing this pair of watercolors possibly made while in Cairo and included in the family heirs\u2019 recent gift of 26 pieces by Emily Sargent.\u00a0 While Emily carefully delineates the market architecture, John\u2019s more fluid approach evokes an almost spectral ambiance. (On view on the Upper East Side through March 8th<\/sup>, 2026).<\/p>\n
