Sam Moyer<\/a>\u2019s monumental \u2018Fern Friend Grief Growth\u2019 is the anchor of her show at the Hill Art Foundation<\/a>, an exhibition made richer by including artworks by major contemporary artists who share Moyer\u2019s interest in pushing the possibilities of materials.\u00a0 This \u2018stone painting\u2019, as it was called when shown at The Parrish Art Museum<\/a> last summer, employs painted plaster and segments of recycled marble to picture delicate plant structures that carry literal and (in the title) metaphorical weight.\u00a0 Nearby, Liz Glynn\u2019s partial recreation of Rodin\u2019s \u2018Walking Man\u2019 sculpture abandons the heaviness of the original bronze like a shed skin while her nearby stainless-steel tumbleweed sculpture is more solid and lasting than the original.\u00a0 From Isamu Noguchi\u2019s ponderous \u2018Woman with Holes\u2019 to Robert Gober\u2019s representation of an open window, the dynamic of contrast between weight and lightness generates continual interest.\u00a0 (On view in Chelsea through Aug 1st<\/sup>).<\/p>\n
