In Alicja Kwade<\/a>\u2019s sculptural practice, clocks signal not just the movement of time but of organizational systems humans put in place to make sense of the world around us.\u00a0 Kwade\u2019s 2015-16 installation in Central Park involved a 16\u2019 tall functional clock with a rotating face, and past work on paper employed scatterings of clock hands affixed to paper to record the amount of rainfall over time during a storm.\u00a0 The artist\u2019s current show at Pace Gallery<\/a> again incorporates clocks, this time suspended in reflective stainless-steel cylinders and signaling cyclical movement and change.\u00a0 Nodding to Aristotle\u2019s theory of causes in the exhibition title, \u2018Telos Tales,\u2019 Kwade adopts the Greek philosopher\u2019s explanation of change in terms of its causes asking with this piece, \u2018Causa Efficiens\u2019 where change comes from.\u00a0 (On view in Chelsea through Aug 15th<\/sup>).<\/p>\n
