Regulated by a grid format, yet pleasingly undulating, Nigerian ceramic artist and professor Ozioma Onuzulike<\/a>\u2019s wall-mounted textiles at Marc Straus Gallery<\/a> are immediately eye catching.\u00a0 Resembling the babariga, a traditional West African men\u2019s garment, closer inspection reveals their construction from palm kernel shells with \u2018embroidery\u2019 patterns created of ceramic pieces.\u00a0 \u00a0Conjuring both the global trade in palm oil and its precedents in the slave trade, Onuzulike\u2019s materials reflect complex histories by also evoking a regal fabric.
