Berlin-based Greek artist Despina Stokou makes her New York debut with \u2018Conversations on the Dirty Dozen,\u2019 an unmissable mixed media wall installation featuring a nude surfer and scrawled text.\u00a0 The haphazard look of Stokou\u2019s writing channels Cy Twombly\u2019s energetically repeated words and marks and Matt Mullican\u2019s automatism, and looks as if it would involve insane ramblings.\u00a0 In fact, the words trail off with a piece of tongue-in-cheek art world advice (from an artist who is also a curator) reading \u201cI used to be an artist too, you know.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t watch out you\u2019re going to end up a curator.\u201d (Stokou is part of \u2018Sweet Distemper,\u2019 organized by Isaac Lyles at Derek Eller Gallery<\/a> through August 16th<\/sup>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
