Allen Ruppersberg\u2019s \u2018What Should I Do?\u2019 from 1988 poses a simple but often relevant question.\u00a0 It relates to his \u201870s autobiographical project \u2018The Novel that Writes Itself\u2019 for which he sold the parts of individual characters to people he knew.\u00a0 By the 80s, he hadn\u2019t resolved the novel and in its place, began accumulating a series of short, unrelated texts like this one. \u00a0\u00a0Though only a few words, it assumes a lot: that the speaker has an audience, agency and options.\u00a0 With almost no means, this silkscreen on steel portrays a life in flux.
