Vastly larger than any work at the Metropolitan Museum of Art<\/a>, Jacolby Satterwhite\u2019s commissioned six-channel projection \u2018A Metta Prayer\u2019 transforms the museum\u2019s cavernous lobby space into a celebratory, uplifting and politically insistent digital realm.\u00a0 Inspired by the Buddhist mantra of loving-kindness, phrases including, \u201cMay we always hear ourselves clearly\u201d and \u201cMay your martyred fate start a revolution against hate\u201d (seen here) appear over computer generated individuals running as if in a video game to collect \u2018mantra coins.\u2019\u00a0 In the segment pictured here, dancer O\u2019Shea Sibley appears in white sweats, filmed months before he was murdered in a racist and homo-phobic attack in a Midwood gas station last summer.\u00a0 Satterwhite\u2019s prayer continues, \u2018May your candid grace deface, replace this senseless race.\u2019 (The museum will be closed Jan 1st<\/sup>.\u00a0 On view through Jan 7th<\/sup>.)<\/p>\n
