Fifty years after Picasso\u2019s death, international gallery Almine Rech<\/a> launches its new Tribeca space with \u2018The Echo of Picasso,\u2019 a group exhibition of work by contemporary artists whose work converses with their influential forebear.\u00a0 Farah Atassi\u2019s \u2018Reclining Woman with Oranges\u2019 at the gallery\u2019s entrance juxtaposes various grids \u2013 rectangular picture frames, grey lines against a peach-toned background and angular patterns on the central figure\u2019s dress \u2013 with curving, organic forms that include a chaise longue and scattered oranges. \u00a0In a show heavy on the human figure, artists from Karel Appel to Rashid Johnson explore contemporary consciousness through distortions pioneered in the early 20th<\/sup> century.\u00a0 (On view through Dec 16th<\/sup>).<\/p>\n
