Characterized by their \u2018cinnamon skin,\u2019 which Garcia creates by mixing primary and secondary colors, and inspired by the artist\u2019s female relatives, figures positioned directly in the water are a metaphor for \u2018layered, fluid, transformative\u2019 identities.\u00a0 Surrounded by lush flower swags, ornate scrolling forms, decorative lace and gold – from decorative tiles at the top to a duck-shaped life preserver \u2013 each character\u2019s ornate environment speaks to a complex, self-inventing identity.
