Six monumental heads tower over visitors to Tau Lewis<\/a>\u2019 installation of totemic sculptures at 52 Walker<\/a> in Tribeca, offering a conduit to encounter the divine.\u00a0 Calling Lewis\u2019 new pieces a \u2018new mythology\u2019 and a \u2018corporeal arena for those who move between temporal and heavenly realms,\u2019 the gallery presents itself as stage for interaction inspired by Yoruban mask dramas in which masks are worn and spiritually activated.\u00a0 Too large for actual movement, the heads convey a powerful solidity while textures and colors created from Lewis\u2019 use of salvaged textiles nevertheless suggest imminent movement and liveliness.\u00a0 (On view in Tribeca through Jan 7th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Note holiday closures this week.)<\/p>\n
