Ghostly white fiberglass figures representing migrant workers in Tiananmen Square make roosts for flapping doves in Beijing artist Zhang Dali’s exhibition at Chelsea’s KleinSun Gallery. Despite the dove as symbol of hope, the figures are washed of color and identity, bespeaking drab anonymity. (Through August 30th).

Beijing-based artist Jiang Pengyi suggests a dystopian quality to China’s rapid urban development with his ‘Unregistered City’ series now at Chelsea’s Klein Sun Gallery. Here, skyscrapers scaled down to toy-size are surrounded by dust and debris in an old, industrial-looking setting that suggests a bleak bigger picture. (Through June 21st).

Chelsea newcomer Klein Sun Gallery is giving visitors who loved the debut of Chinese sculptor Li Hongbo’s paper sculptures a treat. Extended to March 22nd, the exhibition has been rehung with new, larger sculptures including these two female figures constructed of paper carefully glued together sheet by sheet then carved with hand tools by the artist.
