Solid but evoking the immaterial, Ugo Rondinone’s resin waterfall sculptures at Gladstone Gallery propose the constantly shifting form of falling water as a stand-in for the changeability and limited span of human life. In colors derived from crushed gemstones and embedded with ashes from the artist’s hair and fingernails, Rondinone combines synthetic, geological and biological elements to consider the brevity of human time in the vast context of geological time. (On view in Chelsea through Oct 31st).
