Kandy G Lopez, ‘Taking up Space’ at ACA Galleries

Yarn, spray paint and hook mesh are all Kandy G Lopez needs to create magnetic, Grand Manner portraits of everyday citizens now on view at ACA Galleries. Inviting her subjects to pose for photos in their favorite outfits, Lopez sketches their forms on mesh, then builds 2-D representations from yarns that match complex varieties of skin tones and details of dress.  The resulting monumental images celebrate the creativity and style of young and old while testifying to Lopez’s mastery of her media. (On view in Chelsea through Oct 24th).
