New work by LA artist/designers The Haas Brothers at Marianne Boesky Gallery will please more than it surprises, featuring colorful abstractions formed with extruded paint and an assortment of their signature ‘beasts’ made by an accretion technique, then cast in bronze. Chiefly worth a visit is the dramatic ‘Peach for the Stars,’ a huge lamp in the form of a peach tree with stone base, bronze trunk, blown glass lighting fixtures and red leaves and vines made of antique Venetian beads, hand applied by the Haas Sisters – a collective of central California-based makers who realize the Brothers’ beaded projects. Though the softly glowing fruit entices, the textured surface of the vividly colored, complexly structured leaves is marvelous. (On view in Chelsea through Oct 17th).
