Melissa Joseph, ‘Casserole Culture’ at Charles Moffett Gallery

Melissa Joseph continues to invite viewers into scenes from her upbringing in rural Pennsylvania with new felted wool artworks at Charles Moffett Gallery that celebrate family and community.  From the first piece – richly colored green woodland featuring bright yellow bear and deer crossing signs – Joseph’s remarkable material conveys a sense of comfort and warmth that’s even more apparent in the interior scenes that follow.  Her sister’s pink childhood bedroom, a scene of her mother washing dishes in a room with intensely patterned wallpaper and this spread of desserts in ‘Bridal Shower,’ speak to the pleasures of shared lives and memories.  (On view in Tribeca through Oct 17th).
