Downtown realist painter Yvonne Jacquette saw the world from an elevated perspective, making artwork from airplanes, skyscrapers and helicopters as she observed the patterns and colors of the world below. This vibrant painting of Maine’s Lincolnville Beach from 1977 is one of the many standouts of Karma Gallery’s exhibition of the late artist’s work on paper and oil paintings from the ‘70s through 2016. Jacquette’s ariel view minimizes details of the cars and houses dotting the shoreline, instead allowing the sea to appear as a huge, moving mass that fits like a puzzle piece to the land.
