Radiating a benevolent calm, Caddo artist Raven Halfmoon’s ‘West Side Warrior’ sculpture keeps watch over the southern end of the High Line, the elevated park on a former train line constructed in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Wearing a cowboy hat, she recalls the mounted ‘cowboys’ who, before the High Line was built, waved a flag by day and a lantern at night to warn pedestrians of oncoming on-ground train traffic. Positioned on a pedestal recalling a traditional Caddo women’s hair ornament, this warrior strongly asserts her power and heritage.
