Derek Fordjour’s modestly sized bronze sculptures of a waiter, a boxer and a burlesque dancer on the High Line are incongruous with the dense plantings and milling visitors surrounding each, and their presence in the intimate, building-enclosed space of the park above 26th Street is surprising and intriguing. Fordjour’s aim is to shift our perspective on their professional roles, inviting us to consider each is a performer in their own way, using their talents to get ahead.
