Sikkema Malloy Jenkins’ summer group show ‘A House is Not a Home’ conjures different notions of home, with materials ranging from a semi-abstract weaving of a landscape to still lives collaged from linen. Among the variety of media, Liliana Porter’s diminutive sculpture ‘The Gardener’ offers a unique and hopeful take on home as a mental location. With her usual economy of means and sense of humor, the Argentina-born, New York multi-media artist suggests that one can choose to cultivate beauty despite brokenness. (On view in Chelsea through August 7th).
