A wall of sound emerges from music icon Kim Gordon’s guitar as she steps up to a towering pile of cars at an auto wrecker in an industrial estate just north of LA in her film (co-directed with Manuela Dalle) ‘12341 Branford St Sun Valley’ at 303 Gallery. Wearing a silver lame top that both adds a touch of glamor and connects her to the monochrome cars surrounding her, Gordon holds her instrument to various pieces of junked steel as if offering the wreckage a voice. A quote from Gordon on the wall suggests she’s an alien, exploring the fallout from American dreams of the road as place of glamourous freedom. (On view in Chelsea through July 8th).
