How do people manage to live in the world’s biggest cities? Dutch photojournalist Martin Roemers set out to answer this question in ‘Metropolis,’ a series that took him around the world to cities with populations of ten million or more. Roemer discovered that to survive is to focus on the details of everyday life, as he does in this colorful market in Lagos. (On view at Anastasia Photo on the Lower East Side through April 26th).

For more than 20 years, Merrily has published in international art magazines including Time Out New York, Art on Paper, Flash Art, Art Asia Pacific, Art Review, and Tema Celeste in addition to writing catalogue essays and guest lecturing. Merrily teaches art appreciation at Marymount Manhattan College and has taught for Cooper Union Continuing Education.

Merrily is licensed by New York City's Department of Consumer Affairs as a tour guide and is a member of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA USA)
